The more you give thanks with a grateful heart for God’s loving kindness, the more you will have to be grateful for.
As a matter of fact, in scripture we are told…
“You are my God, and I give thanks to You; You are my God, I extol You. Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; For His loving kindness is everlasting” -Psalm 118: 28-29
When you read these two verses, does it mean anything to you or is it just words on a page that do not have much importance? If we are all honest, I think we would admit that many times we read verses like this in the Bible and we just take it for granted that He is good and kind and loving. But do we really believe it deep within our hearts?
I have been a Christian for over 25 years now. And I would like to think that I am a man of faith who completely puts his trust in God. I like to think that I completely trust that God is always good towards me.
But as I sat down to consider God’s unwavering loving kindness toward me. During a very recent and challenging time in my life, I had to admit to myself that I wasn’t 100% confident in God’s goodness and kindness.
Oh sure, in my head I could say that God’s got it all under control. That God has the absolute best intentions towards me. But deep within my heart I found myself questioning this, at least to some degree.
When I became fully aware of these feelings and thoughts I felt bad.
I felt like I had somehow failed my God.
So what could I do with these feelings?
Well, I must move on and realize that there is still a lot of growing for me to do.
I also realize that there is an enemy who would love to use a little doubt in order to put a wedge between God and I. This enemy wants me to forget to give thanks with a grateful heart.
Being fully aware of this, I commit to not allowing that happen.
I assume that many of you have had similar experiences in your life as well. We may say to ourselves, “God’s got this.”
But are we really believing that He is being fully good and kind toward us in every situation?
I think this struggle is not unusual for many of us, and in fact I believe it is virtually impossible to completely trust in God’s kindness 100% of the time. We are only human, right.
That’s why it’s so important to maintain an attitude of gratitude.
But that’s just part of the story…
How to Give Thanks with a Grateful HeartThere are a few steps that I have found to be helpful in the process of growing and understanding God’s lovingkindness as it relates to us personally and I would love to share those with you.
And no matter what, remember to give thanks with a grateful heart for God’s loving kindness.
